Denise Moore

I began my yoga journey at age 11, a time when yoga classes were few and far between. While at a friend’s extensive home library, I chose a plain black yoga book, missing its dust jacket. But the content and photos captivated my interest and I began to practice the poses with a child’s curiosity for the asana names and what seemed like impossible contortions.

I took a Yoga PE class in college and appreciated the calm focus which allowed me to improve study skills and get along better with my roommates. I earned an average grade in the class because I was inflexible, but strength and flexibility improve with practice. You will experience as early as your first class, some of yoga’s immeasurable benefits — clarity, peace of mind, well-being and self-awareness.

In 1990 I traveled to Yogaville where I met Swami Satchidananda and experienced Integral Yoga, a synthesis of yoga practices which brought harmony in body, mind, and spirit. I certified in Beginner, Advanced and Pre-Natal Integral Yoga.  Since then I have studied many styles of yoga including Iyengar and Integrative Yoga Therapy.

I am a Certified Yoga Therapist, registered with International Association of Yoga Therapists, (IAYT), the certifying board which sets high standards for education and ethics.  A Yoga Therapist is not an instructor with a bit of healing yoga training.  A Certified Yoga Therapist is a professional who has successfully completed a structured and thorough therapeutic curriculum, accrued numerous hours of therapeutic experience and has been tested, evaluated and accredited by the IAYT.

As a Yoga Alliance E-RYT 500, I have taught for 30 years and owned Leesburg’s first yoga studio from 1996 – 2000.  I am the owner and director of Open Dimension Yoga Teacher Training, a Yoga Alliance accredited 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training school.
